by Isabelle Robinson

Fredericton, NB – Five New Brunswick students have been awarded $2,000 scholarships from the Bell Aliant Pioneers of New Brunswick Chapter 51 Scholarship Foundation.

The Scholarship Foundation awards annual scholarships to New Brunswick students who are pursuing post-secondary education. Each applicant is assessed on several criteria, including academic achievements, community and school participation, plans for continued education, demonstrated perseverance and the need for financial assistance.

 The 2011 scholarship recipients include:

  •  Alana Totton, graduate of Belleisle Regional High School in Norton
  •  Byrann Gowan, graduate of Hampton High School in Hampton
  •  Cassidy Collings, graduate of Simonds High School in Saint John
  •  Mia Losier, graduate of James M. Hill High School in Miramichi
  •  Véronique LaLonde-Leblanc, graduate of Polyvalente Aux-Quatre-Vents in Dalhousie.

“The accomplishments and contributions of these students are truly outstanding and we are pleased to offer them this assistance to attain their educational goals,” said Jan Grant, President and Director of the Scholarship Foundation. “Through the Foundation, our members are sowing seeds for New Brunswick’s future by investing in deserving students who have already overcome a variety of challenges.”

The Bell Aliant Pioneers of New Brunswick Chapter 51 Scholarship Foundation Inc. was formed in 1992 with the goal of helping students in the province with physical or mental challenges pursue their education. Since 1992, the Foundation has awarded over $195,000 in scholarships to over 100 students in New Brunswick.  The Scholarships are funded through tax-deductible donations, memorials, bequests and a variety of fundraising activities.
